If you’ve been following me for a little while now then you know that red definitely isn’t my colour but since it is Valentines day this week, it’s nice to incorporate the bold colour in some way or another. For all of you who feel the same way and don’t fancy rocking head to toe red, I thought I would put together one of my favourite date night looks from the high street and show you how to style it two ways.
Growing up, my go to evening style would be a classic pair of jeans and a nice top, who doesn’t like that combo!? But in the past year I have really come out of my shell and have loved experimenting with dresses and skirts. Valentines day is the perfect excuse to treat yourself to a new dress, get all dressed up and hit the town. Whether you’re going out on a romantic date, or drinking one to many cocktails with the girls, this dress styled two ways will steal your heart.
Arriving in anything head to toe hot pink or cherry red will definitely make you look like a Valentine’s day enthusiast – I love to celebrate the holiday – whether that’s with my girl friends, boyfriend or most likely both but I like my outfit to subtly nod to that.
Some may say that the heart print theme in itself screams ‘Crazy Girl Who Loves Valentines Day’ but with a navy base, it calms it down and is delicately appropriate.
To tone the girly girl look down a notch, I’ve styled the super cute dress with a pair of grey knee high boots to toughen the whole outfit up. I’ve chosen to incorporate different shades of red, a burgundy bag and an orangey red pair of earrings since they all compliment one another and make the main attraction (the dress) pop.
Being a fan of the midi dress, I was in two minds on whether this is too short but you’re only young once; it’s fun, feminine and classic all in one. When shopping for the perfect dress, I look for something dramatic, elegant and timeless; something I can wear again and again.
What I love about this dress is how versatile it is; dress it up, dress it down, show it off or cover it up, this everyday dress can be styled for any occasion. This one in particular can be styled to give a totally different vibe. If you love valentines and want to shout it from the roof tops, opt for the full girly head to toe look. Once considered a fashion faux pas, mixing both red and pink together are now seen as an insanely stylish pairing.
I’ve opted for both bright and pastels to create an explosive colour pairing. These cute blush pink shoes are the perfect heel height, if like me, you aren’t the best at walking in high heels – they match the suede jacket just right and give a refreshing feel to the darker colours, a nod to the beginning of Spring.
To finish off both looks, I’ve opted for the tassel earrings of dreams… just look at them! This trend started last Summer and it’s not going anywhere. Statement accessories really do elevate a look, they can make the simplest of outfits look amazing or give a statement dress an extra oomph. With their three shades of red and pink, these ombre tassel earrings complement all of the other shades and if you thought the heart print alone made an entrance level statement, combined with this shimmying pair it takes the word statement to completely new levels.
