Your Spring Fashion Essentials

Spring is one of my favourite seasons. Lighter days, lighter layers, flowers in bloom; what’s not to like? With a new season, comes new trends and a whole new wardrobe. After months of wearing chunky jumpers and outerwear as your main outfit, it’s time to introduce florals, lace, colour and floaty fabrics to your wardrobe. I like to keep my Spring/Summer wardrobe separate to my Autumn/Winter one and so now is the time when I bring down my Spring tops and dresses from the loft and swap them with my thick roll neck jumpers. Every Spring wardrobe should have a mixture of classic, fail-safe outfit pieces, as well as trend led items to inject some fun into your looks but there are a number of Spring Fashion essentials you most definitely need.

The Floral Floaty Dress

Hands up if you too are now fed up of wearing jeans? As soon as the days start to warm up you will find me in florals and midi dresses, not only are they a great piece to dress up for an occasion such as a day at the races, or a garden party but you can also dress them down as an every day outfit. Their versatility is endless – if like me you have a soft, feminine style, opt for delicate jewellery, pointed toe shoes, pastel coloured boots or sandals to ensure a girly, elegant look. If you want to experiment with florals but find them too girly, toughen them up with a leather or suede jacket and pair them with trainers or black boots for effortless style but maximum comfort.

The Spring Jacket

The days may be lighter and perhaps a little warmer, but here in the UK it can still feel chilly and you’ll want something to cover up your shoulders and arms. Gone are the days when your only option would be a cardigan as there are now so many to choose from. Leather jackets, suede jackets, trench coats, kimonos, blazers, the spring jacket is well and truly your oyster. One of my favourites is a cropped leather jacket but to make it feel more appropriate for Spring, I’ve chosen a pale pink one from Zara. This adds a touch of elegance to the look but due to the hard wearing material, it also balances out the femininity of the outfit. Instead of a girly girl look, it brings about its own grown up glamour feel to the outfit. Another favourite of mine is the trench coat, the classic burberry style that everyone seems to crave, but this year we are seeing a modern take on the trench coats as we are seeing them in all kinds of colours and material. This lightweight lace trench is beautiful, screams Spring and will be a wardrobe staple for years to come.

 The Midi Skirt

You’re in the mood to wear florals, elegant fabrics, brighter colours but the weather just isn’t having any of it, introducing the midi skirt – the  life saviour to all outfit dilemmas when the weather can’t make up it’s mind. It’s lightweight and airy for when the sun is shining but style it with either OTK boots or ankle boots to keep warm during those chillier days. I have been living in a  pleated midi skirt and a pair of OTK boots lately, it’s such an easy outfit to throw on yet is still so stylish. Pair a a thin knit tucked into the skirt for everyday elegance or throw on your oversize jumper and cinch it in at the waist with a belt for ultra modernity.

The Pointed Mule

During the in-between weather Spring likes to throw at us, it’s difficult to decide what the best type of footwear is to wear. By April, I have well and truly had enough of boots but yet it’s way to early for a full on sandal. Over the years, I’ve come to learn that a pair of mules or loafers are your best bet. Last season they were everywhere, and this year will be no different. From flat statement mules to blocked heel neutral pairs, my shoe wardrobe is full of them. My favourite is this pointed toe pair from Reiss. At £75 they are a true investment piece but there is nothing this pair of shoes doesn’t go with. They take any outfit from drab to glam in seconds, and the high but easy to walk in block heel instantly lengthens the leg. Another favourite are these pink pointed flat mules, perfect for  laid back style and they instantly add a perfect pop of colour ensuring the look is fun and spring-like.

A Circle Bag

If there’s one particular spring trend that I’m smitten with at the moment, it’s the circle bag and boy is it an essential for the season ahead. Circle shaped bags are having a major moment lately, with designers from Chloe to Chanel all showing their own take on the trend. It’s such a classic style yet pair one with any outfit from your wardrobe and the chic accessory will update it within seconds, giving any outfit a current, modern feel. The highstreet is making the circle bag its own with so many styles available; leather satchels, suede clutches and even beach ready straw circle bags which… sneak peak… are yet to become the biggest trend of the summer. Some may call them impractical, I say they are the perfect idylic accessory for a carefree, spring is here outfit.
